This is was first posted on the 1st May 2023, on Substack, reposted here as the start of a migration due to problems on that platform. The actual start to the below was waylaid due to unforseen events, which took all of 2023 to sort out.

Maybe We Can Do Better

“Maybe” - Because in humility we need to admit neither I, or even you dear reader, know everything & all outcomes from particular actions.
“We” - Because no individual, no matter the resources they have access to, can do it alone.
“Can” - Because there is so much potential in the possibilities.
“Do” - Because while discussion can be fascinating, in the end it is actions that count.
“Better” - Because the result should produce a better outcome for as many as possible, win-win wherever possible.

1. “Why this, why now?”

Issues Technological, Sociological, Political, Economical & Environmental.
I’m increasingly frustrated with the apparent unwillingness & inability of governments, organisations, companies, groups and individuals ( myself included ) to take actions to solve or at least significantly mitigate many of the problems humanity, as a whole and in part, is facing.
I seek no utopia, just better outcomes. There are potentially solutions, known and as of yet undiscovered, which if adopted can do so.
I believe that the signal to noise ratio of the current social media platforms is so low that currently they mostly impede any positive progress towards the above. It is my as much my fault for wasting the last two and a half years on Twitter instead of taking the actions that I will be documenting in this Substack.
I’ll be dividing my time discussing issues & its media coverage and developing software & system to hopefully inform & help.

2. What kind of community are you looking to build here

I’m looking to join together as many people as possible who believe it would be nicer if things could be resolved by serious analysis & rational dialectic argument rather than wasting time throwing ideological Kayfabe outrage back & forth.
Also it would be nice to develop some free open source software without it being beholden to a large company for a change, so the subscriptions will be going to a worthy cause.

3. Be specific

Most days I’ll be posting my take on issues news events in the morning & following with updates and analysis last thing at night. Expect commentary to be on the polemic but humorous side at times. Deeper analysis and predictions may be below the paywall for subscribers.
I am starting some new open source software projects, including problem modelling & higher level programming, social media platforms, language & network models.
Sometimes, while working on the above during the day, I’ll be live streaming on Youtube ( or maybe on another platform ) while keeping my eye on current events & the subscriber only Substack chat.
On occasion I may get irritated enough to stop, create and a post the occasional short form video to this & other platforms.
I’ll be scooting around Auckland on a mostly weekly basis with an attached Insta360 X3 camera making commentary and the occasional interview, editing the result & putting it on YouTube & other platforms.

Consdier the above a draft for 2024.
